Edipsos hot springs at a glance
Edipsos, written Aidipsos in Greek and also known as Loutra Edipsou, lies in the north-west of Evia. The town is known for its thermal springs, where hot mineral water comes out close to the sea. Two things are easy to mix up: the springs at the shore and the paid public bath. This page keeps them apart.
The main springs are around 71–73 °C. That is the temperature of the spring water, not of a pool. Water in a bath is cooler, so test it carefully before you get in. If you want to combine a soak with other stops, see our guide to Limni and the Evia tours and day trips.

Natural pools on the shore
Along the coast there are natural pools, free of charge, where thermal water runs into the sea. Thermal water and the sea do meet here, but that does not mean every pool is open at all times.
Treat these pools as places to look at first. Check the water before you step in, because the temperature varies and some spots can be much hotter than others. Follow any signs and keep children close.

Ferry from Arkitsa to Loutra Edipsou
The crossing from the mainland takes roughly 45 minutes.
Fares in 2026
Adults pay about €4 to €6, so confirm the fare when you buy. Children aged 5 to 10 pay €3 and younger children travel free. A car costs €20.50. A motorbike up to 250 ccm costs €6.70 and a larger one €8.50. Bicycles are free.
Timetable
In autumn the crossings run about every two hours during the day, a little earlier on weekdays than at weekends. The timetable changes with the season, so check the current one.
Arrival and boarding
Arrive 30 to 60 minutes before departure. Vehicles board in order of arrival, so a reserved spot is not guaranteed. For the full picture of how to reach the island, read Athens to Evia.
Where to stay and what to plan
Choosing the north.
Edipsos works as a base for the north of the island. By road it is 127 km and about 2 hours 25 minutes from Chalkida, so do not plan it as a short stop from the south. A state reconstruction programme includes a project to renew the distribution of the thermal water, so do not assume every historic bathing building is open. Our page on where to stay on Evia explains the areas without naming hotels.
Pair a soak with a morning in Limni or a visit to the shrine in Prokopi.
