Evia beaches at a glance
Evia is the second largest island in Greece, so the beaches are spread over a long coast. The gulf side, around Eretria and Chalkida, is the easiest to reach from Athens. The Aegean side has the harbor of Kymi. The south has Karystos and, for ferry arrivals from Rafina, the port of Marmari.
Water quality, lifeguard hours, parking and sunbed prices differ from beach to beach and from year to year. A Blue Flag is awarded to a particular beach in a particular season, not to a whole town. Check the situation locally on the day you go.

Our picks: Evia by boat and beach swim
Both boat days come with snorkel masks and air mattresses, so they suit a day built around swimming. Take the Stropones Gorge hike if you want a walk before the swim.

Agia Anna beach and Agali
One village, one beach, two different places.
Agia Anna is a village on the slopes of Mount Xiro. The beach is Agali, close to the village. Treat them as two stops: the village sits above the shore, not on it. The beach area is a summer holiday resort. Look at the sea state and the parking before you commit to a day there.
Blue Flag beaches in 2026
The list for the Evia region has six entries. Four are on the island.
| Beach | Municipality | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lefkandi | Chalkida | Island coast | On the 2026 list |
| Venus | Karystos | Island coast | On the 2026 list |
| Kokkini | Karystos | Island coast | On the 2026 list |
| Kremala | Karystos | Island coast | On the 2026 list |
| Alykes Drosias | Chalkida | Mainland side near Drosia | Programme period ended 15 September 2026 |
| Asteria Chalkidas | Chalkida | Boeotian mainland side | Programme period ended 15 September 2026 |
The two mainland beaches are not Evia island beaches, so they are not counted here. Marina Linaria also appears under the Evia region but lies on Skyros. For most visitors who want an award beach on the island itself, the three near Karystos are the choice, and Lefkandi suits a stay around Chalkida. A Blue Flag does not cover every beach of a town, and the end of the programme period is not a swimming ban.
Eretria and the gulf coast
Close to Athens by the short ferry.
Eretria lies on the southern Gulf of Evia, opposite Oropos. It has a seafront promenade, a harbor and beaches, and it adds an ancient site and a museum for a day that is not only about the sea. The ferry from Oropos takes 20 minutes and costs €3 per person or €10 for a car with the driver in 2026. See the Eretria page.
East coast: Kymi and the Aegean side
A harbor town with a link to Skyros.
Kymi is a harbor on the Aegean side of Evia, and boats to the island of Skyros leave from here. Skyros is a separate island, so treat it only as a ferry destination from here. Parking, access roads and fees at east coast beaches vary, so ask locally before you drive down a track to a cove. Check the sea and the weather on the day.
South Evia: Karystos and Marmari
The three flagged beaches and the ferry port.
Karystos is a coastal town under Mount Ochi, and the Blue Flag beaches Venus, Kokkini and Kremala belong to its municipality. Marmari is the port where the ferry from Rafina arrives. The crossing takes about 1 hour. Passengers should arrive 30 minutes before departure and vehicles 1 hour before. A passenger costs €12 in 2026, and a car costs €27 or €30 depending on the category. Marmari is not Karystos, so allow time for the onward drive. See Karystos and getting there.
Which coast for which trip
A quick comparison.
| Coast | How you arrive | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Gulf side: Eretria and Chalkida | Bridge at Chalkida, or the 20-minute ferry from Oropos | Lefkandi has a Blue Flag in 2026; Eretria adds a museum and an ancient site |
| Aegean side: Kymi | By road across the island | Harbor town with boats to Skyros |
| South: Karystos and Marmari | Ferry from Rafina, about 1 hour, or a long drive | Venus, Kokkini and Kremala have a Blue Flag in 2026 |
For most visitors coming from Athens for a day, the gulf side is the easiest. For a beach stay with several flagged beaches, the south around Karystos is the better base.
